May 17 found my wife and I attending a potluck at the Weed Community Center, brisket and drinks provided by the Weed Community Association, for a "Meet The Candidates (Republican Candiates Only)" evening. We went to listen and to learn. We found out that every one of the Republican candidates are running on a platform of "love of God, love of family and love of country."
The rare moments when issues were touched on they were all negative and arrogant: "I'm for sealing our borders;" "Stop letting in immigrants;" "I'm against any domestic partnership law;" ad nauseum. I could not help wonder if and how we were going to seal our borders to Canada and all the coastal areas?
One of the gentlemen running for Commissioner wise cracked that the legislature should require all Republicans to turn their lights on during the day and require all Democrats to turn off their lights at night. The only time I opened my mouth all night was to say, "But that would probably kill some Republicans!"
One of the candidates for commissioner raffled off a rifle, bullets, scope, hard carrying case and gave away caps and emery boards. If you give to my campaign, I will use it for good public advertising not trinkets to give to the insider group.
All in all, I saw "Geo. W. Bush" spoken all over the place. Yes, that's what I said--go figure.
