Some have asked what I like to do for fun. Well here goes: long conversations with my special education teacher wife Susan; feeding the birds with granddaughter Autumn del Palacio. Knocking around ideas with other grandchildren and children. Reading--a wide variety of books. Once in a while seeing a really good movie on the big screen with popcorn and pop. Gardening. Petting our dogs and cats. Hiking. Going to Oklahoma and hunting with my son-in-law and grandkids. Fishing. Going to stage productions at the Flickinger. Going to high school activities: athletic, dramatic, musical, awards..... Taking visitors to White Sands National Monument, the Zoo and the Space Museum. Sitting prayerfully in the quiet of my porch and listening to the quiet in the wind in the pine trees and the Agua Chiquita Creek as it rushes on its course through our property.
I enjoy meeting with people and talking--I especially enjoy conversations with folk who differ from me but approach the discussion with civility. There is a crazy group of retired preachers with whom I enjoy meeting monthly to eat together and then over dessert to tell jokes! Human beings are a delight to me. There is so much variety. There are so many accents and languages. The human being is just totally fascinating: body, mind, spirit. Along with other creatures of God, the entire realm of animal, mineral, and plant is totally awe inspiring and, if you will, fun--fun to explore, fun to try to figure out, fun to enjoy. And, yes, to express to God my thanks for building into us humor and fun. Now don't ask me if I get or take time to do all this fun stuff!!!!!
